What happens after a lighting project is awarded? That’s where Project Grooming comes in.
At Wow Lighting and Controls, Project Grooming is a term that has been part of our company for decades. While other companies may refer to this role as Project Management, we call it Project Grooming because that’s exactly what our team does: they go through the details with a fine-tooth comb to help ensure a project is ready to move from awarded through construction with no mistakes.
Our Calgary and Edmonton Project Grooming teams have now come together as one provincial team, providing consistent project management and coordination across Alberta.
What Is Project Grooming?
Once a project has been awarded to Wow Lighting and Controls, our Project Groomers take ownership of the details and manage the project through the construction phase.
We like to call it “grooming the spec.”
It’s about asking the right questions, catching the details, working through the changes, and making sure the order has been thoroughly reviewed before the order is fully released.
They review quotes, specifications, and approval drawings, coordinate revisions and product changes, work with manufacturers, and stay connected with customer project managers, and our internal teams to keep things moving toward completion.
Meet the team
Jessie Olson
Approval Drawing Coordinator
Jessie focuses on the preparation and delivery of customer approval drawing packages, helping ensure they are completed accurately and delivered efficiently to keep projects moving.
🏄🏻♀️ Outside of work, Jessie loves participating in Wow’s annual Home for Dinner volunteer days at Ronald McDonald House Alberta, hiking throughout the Rockies, and getting out on the water for some summer stand-up paddleboarding.
Chantel Lane
Approval Drawing Coordinator Support
Chantel provides administrative support to the Calgary office, and regularly jumps in to assist Jessie with approval drawing packages when workloads increase. Her support helps the team maintain the quick turnaround times our customers rely on.
Shane Draganiuk
Alberta Project Grooming Manager
Shane manages the flow of projects for Wow Lighting and Controls, with a major focus on the thorough review of approval drawings. He also navigates manufacturer requirements and the changes that inevitably arise throughout a project, helping ensure everything is executed accurately for our clients.
⛰️Outside of work, Shane and his wife enjoy heading out of Edmonton to explore provincial parks throughout Alberta and British Columbia in their travel trailer. When he’s staying closer to home, you can usually find him unwinding with some PC gaming.
Blaine Wainright
Project Gooming
Blaine has been part of the Wow Lighting and Controls team for eight years and has spent the past year and a half working in Project Grooming, helping manage projects through the construction phase.
Phiron Meas
Project Grooming
Phiron manages projects from the time they are awarded to Wow through the construction phase, helping coordinate the details and changes required along the way.
🏒Outside of work, Phiron coaches their child’s hockey and baseball teams.
Rhonda Waters
Project Grooming
Rhonda helps groom projects by reviewing quotes, preparing approval drawings, reviewing returned approvals, and coordinating any required changes. She works closely with project managers and contractors to make sure project details are accurate and products arrive correctly on site. Her favourite part of the role is seeing a project reach completion without any issues.
